Justin D. “Dan” McCarthy
Justin D. “Dan” McCarthy completed a 37 year career in the United States Navy on April 1st, 2007 and retired from military service as a Vice Admiral. He currently serves as a senior consultant with Commonwealth Consulting Corporation.
His final active duty assignment was as Director, Material Readiness and Logistics, the senior logistician on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. In this assignment, he was responsible for Navy policy, programming, and resourcing for Fleet readiness, logistics, strategic sealift, and environmental programs. Mr. McCarthy served as a Navy Supply Corps officer. Over the course of his career, he served on five ships, culminating in his assignment as recommissioning Supply Officer, USS Missouri (BB 63). His staff assignments provided him a wide variety of logistics and financial management experience. His financial management assignments included tours as Chief Financial Officer of both the Pacific Fleet Naval Surface Force and the Defense Logistics Agency. Dan also commanded the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia, the accession source for all Supply Corps’ officers. Following his promotion to flag rank in November 1996, Mr. McCarthy served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Defense Logistics Agency and later as Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Fleet Supply and Ordnance, U. S. Pacific Fleet. In July 2001, Dan began a three year tour as Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command and 42nd Chief of Supply Corps.
A native of Auburn Hills, Michigan, Dan earned his commission through Officer Candidate School, Newport, R.I., in October 1969. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Oakland University and is a distinguished graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Management. He is also a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College and a graduate of the University of Michigan Executive Education Program.
