Gregory M. Suchan

Gregory M. Suchan joined Commonwealth Consulting Corporation as a Senior Associate in July 2007 following his retirement from the United States Foreign Service. His 34-year career with the Department of State focused primarily on political-military issues and included overseas assignments to U.S. diplomatic missions in Mexico, London, NATO headquarters, Pakistan and Denmark.

For seven years from 2000 to 2007, Mr. Suchan was Deputy Assistant Secretary in the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, and for two years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 worked virtually full-time on diplomatic support for Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom (including obtaining base access for U.S. forces and building the international political and military coalition in support of the war on terrorism).

From 2003 to 2007, Mr. Suchan’s responsibilities included supervision of the State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, which licenses U.S. defense exports and ensures compliance with the Arms Export Control Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Mr. Suchan is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Washington, DC and the NATO Defence College in Rome, Italy.
